Today, May 7, Texas Governor Gregg Abbott has modified his executive orders with the COVID 19 pandemic to eliminate confinement as a punishment for violating orders. This will be retroactive to April 2, 2020.
Governor Abbott takes these measures in the shadow of Dallas hairdresser, Shelley Luther being sentenced to jail for opening her shop during the “shelter in place” orders issued earlier. Luther was sentenced to 7 days in jail, and a fine of $7,000. Governor Abbott also refers to Brenda Mata and Isabel Castro-Garcia from Laredo.
