Today, March 5, 2021, officials with TISD have released their decision for the usage of face masks on school campuses. Texarkana Independent School District will continue to follow the COVID-19 safety protocols and procedures that we have had in place since the beginning of the school year.

Though Texas Governor Greg Abbott has ordered that the statewide mask mandate expires on March 10, 2021, students and faculty of TISD will continue to practice safety measures that have been in place since the beginning of the school year.

    Press Release:

Following the direction from Texas Education Agency (TEA) and the Centers for Disease Control (CDC), Texarkana ISD will continue to follow the COVID-19 safety protocols and procedures that we have had in place since the beginning of the school year.  This includes a requirement that students, staff and visitors wear masks as described in our SMART RESTART…

Thanks in part to your support of the district’s mitigation efforts, they are proving to be effective.  Working together as the Tiger Family, we can continue to ensure our students and staff members are protected as much as possible against COVID-19.
From the TISD “Smart Restart” Staff Handbook:
    Face Masks/Shields
The District’s requirements for face masks/shields are as follows:
    ● Pre-K students will be required to wear masks during transition times and dismissal. They
will not be required to be worn in the classroom.
    ● K-5th students will be required to wear masks during transition times, dismissal and in the
classroom when not socially distanced. When students are seated at their desk for
instruction, they would be allowed to pull the mask down. TISD will provide a buff
style mask for all Pre-K – 5th grade students. We encourage this style of mask for
anyone providing their own for this age group.
    ● Grades 6-12 students will be required to wear masks in common areas, during transition
times, dismissal and in the classroom when not socially distanced. TISD will provide a
mask or students can provide their own that meets the dress code policy.
    ● Exceptions will be made based on the developmental appropriateness and need of individual
    students.
    ● Staff will be required to wear masks/face shields.

After more than 40 years with commercial broadcasting, I decided to do my own thing by blogging, and taking "unconsultant" gigs. It affords me the ability to stay super involved in the community, but still, have plenty of time with my 3 granddaughters and other projects.
