April is National Autism Awareness Month

By Jeff Easterling on April 2, 2021 City News, Community Involvement

The month of April is National Autism Awareness Month, with April 2 being “World Autism Awareness Day”. The United Nations General Assembly declared April 2nd as World Autism Awareness day in 2008 to draw attention to the growing need for innovative programs designed to support those with autism… #WAAD.

National Autism Awareness Month 2021 begins on Thursday, April 1st, and ends on Thursday, April 30. Autism is a complex brain disorder that often inhibits a person’s ability to communicate, respond to surroundings, and form relationships with others. Autism affects people of all racial, ethnic, and socioeconomic backgrounds. Additionally, WAAD celebrates the unique talents and skills of persons with autism around the world.

On World Autism Awareness Day, Autism Speaks celebrates its international Light It Up Blue Campaign. Thousands of iconic landmarks, communities, businesses, and homes across the globe unite by shining bright blue lights in honor of the millions of individuals and families around the world affected by autism. After more than 40 years with commercial broadcasting, I decided to do my own thing by blogging, and taking "unconsultant" gigs. It affords me the ability to stay super involved in the community, but still, have plenty of time with my 3 granddaughters and other projects.
