Texarkana’s World Famous ‘Peach Pie Recipe’

We have decided to call it “Texarkana’s World Famous Peach Pie”, but many know this recipe from a local cafeteria that closed in 2017 after almost 100 years in business. So many have enjoyed this pie recipe over the decades that local summers just aren’t the same without it.

Some have come to know this recipe as “Bryce’s Peach Pie”, but the recipe itself can also be found searching “Amish Peach Pie” or Mennonite. You just tweak it the way you like for your own tastes.

World Famous Texarkana Peach Pie Recipe

    Ingredients:
    1 Heaping tablespoon cornstarch
    1 cup granulated Sugar
2 Heaping tablespoons of all-purpose flour
    2 cups of whole milk
    2 beaten eggs
    1/2 stick of butter
    1 teaspoon vanilla extract
5-6 fresh peaches, peeled and sliced
    1 baked pie crust
    Whipped cream

    Preparation:
In a heavy saucepan, mix cornstarch, sugar, and flour together. Add milk and beaten eggs. Cook until thick, stirring constantly. Add butter and vanilla and stir until butter is melted and blended in. Let cool.

Pour the mixture into the baked pie crust. Add the fresh peaches, drained, and dried onto the mixture. (Frozen peaches can be used, but make sure there is no juice. Pour into the baked pie crust, cover with the whipped cream. Refrigerate until ready to serve.

When you look at some of the Amish recipes, the biggest difference is that in their recipes you mix the peach slices with the mixture before adding to pie crust. We figure it is 6 one way, and half a dozen the other… try it out and let us know what you think. Share your improvements to the recipe and we are more than happy to come over and try it out.

This may not be the exact recipe for the old “Bryce’s Pies”, we miss that place so bad, and the peach pie was our favorite item on the menu, so we’ve been working on it and think this is probably as close as we are ever going to get.

After more than 40 years with commercial broadcasting, I decided to do my own thing by blogging, and taking "unconsultant" gigs. It affords me the ability to stay super involved in the community, but still, have plenty of time with my 3 granddaughters and other projects.
