Memorial Day falls on Monday, May 27, 2024. There will be four local Memorial Day services starting on Sunday, May 26. If you can’t attend any of these, please join the National Moment of Remembrance at 3 pm on Monday to honor those who made the ultimate sacrifice.
Memorial Day is a time for Americans to remember and honor those who gave their lives in service to the United States military. This year, Texarkana will host four Memorial Day services:
- Sunday, May 26 at 2:00 pm: The first service will be at Memorial Gardens on Hwy 67 East, past the airport, hosted by Memorial Gardens and the Texarkana Area Veterans Council.
- Monday, May 27 at 11:00 am: The second service will take place at the Miller County Courthouse, hosted by the American Legion.
- Monday, May 27 at approximately 11:45 am: The third service will be at the Korea/Vietnam Memorial, hosted by the Vietnam Veterans of America #278. This will be the 41st Memorial Day service at this site. Attendees are advised to bring lawn chairs.
- Monday, May 27 at 2:00 pm: The final service will be at Hillcrest Cemetery on Hwy 67 West, hosted by Texarkana Funeral Home.
Everyone is encouraged to attend these services. For those unable to attend, the National Moment of Remembrance will be observed at 3:00 pm local time across the country. Please take a moment to remember those who gave their lives for our freedoms. They deserve at least that much.
