In the wake of severe weather sweeping through the Texarkana area, local emergency services have been inundated with a surge in 911 calls, prompting a significant response from law enforcement and fire departments.
During the latest bout of severe weather, officers from Texarkana Arkansas Police Department (TAPD), Texarkana Texas Police Department (TTPD), Bowie County, and numerous fire department personnel found themselves stretched thin as they tackled a myriad of weather-related emergencies. Calls flooded in reporting accidents, traffic hazards, alarms, flooding, and requests to assist stranded motorists.
On June 3 alone, day shift personnel responded to a staggering 100 more calls for service than their average workload, with fire departments handling 50 more runs than usual. The strain continued into the night, with night shift responders handling 65 more calls than their typical load, alongside an additional 30 fire runs.
Over the span of 48 hours, the region saw close to 1000 calls for assistance, with over 600 of them being routed through the 911 system. Despite the deluge of emergencies, local agencies remain steadfast in their commitment to serving and safeguarding the community.
Authorities emphasize the importance of heeding weather alerts and being prepared for future severe weather incidents. They extend their gratitude to the dedicated 911 operators for their outstanding service amidst challenging circumstances.
As the region braces for potential future weather events, residents are urged to stay vigilant and prioritize safety measures to mitigate the impact of severe weather on the Texarkana community.
