The ongoing project to widen Interstate 30 in Texarkana has reached a significant milestone as the Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT) initiates the next phase, prompting changes in traffic patterns around the construction site.
Concrete barriers have been installed on Mall Drive in the vicinity of Spring Lake Park as part of the diversion plan. The primary objective is to reroute all eastbound traffic off Interstate 30 at the Stateline Avenue exit onto Mall Drive. This diversion will facilitate the removal and replacement of the existing I-30 bridge over the KCS train tracks. Subsequently, eastbound traffic will rejoin the Interstate via the entrance ramp just before Stateline Avenue, ensuring minimal disruption for travelers.
Under the new traffic configuration, the left two lanes on Mall Drive will be designated for Interstate traffic, while all other vehicles on Mall Drive will utilize the far right lane. Additionally, North Park Road, which passes beneath the bridge slated for demolition, will be temporarily closed to traffic.
Authorities estimate that this traffic arrangement will remain in effect for approximately twelve months, potentially causing minor delays for local drivers on Mall Drive. Non-interstate traffic on Mall Drive seeking access to Interstate 30 will need to use the Jefferson Avenue entrance ramp in Arkansas after navigating through the traffic lights at Stateline Avenue.
Motorists are strongly advised to consider alternative routes and avoid the affected section of Mall Drive whenever possible. Those traveling through the area are urged to exercise caution, adhere to reduced speed limits, and prioritize safety to ensure the well-being of all road users.
The Interstate 30 widening project aims to enhance infrastructure and improve traffic flow, contributing to the region’s long-term transportation efficiency and safety. Residents and commuters are encouraged to stay informed about updates and adjustments to traffic patterns throughout the construction period.
