According to the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, lake levels at Wright Patman Lake are expected to return to normal, allowing swimming areas to reopen as soon as tomorrow, July 3. This timely reopening comes just in time for Fourth of July campers.
The closures were a result of extensive rains in May and early June, which caused water levels to rise beyond what the dams could safely manage. “The lake accumulated more water than the dams could safely release,” explained Ranger Logan Lovelace.
To address this, the Corps of Engineers has been releasing the maximum amount of water into local rivers daily. These efforts have successfully brought the lake back to its normal levels.
With the lake expected to be fully reopened, visitors can look forward to enjoying the water and the upcoming holiday festivities without concern.
