Saharan Dust Blankets Ark-La-Tex Region Amid Rising Temperatures

Residents across the Ark-La-Tex region are bracing for a haze-filled few days as a plume of Saharan dust moves in from the south. The dust, expected to be thickest on Thursday, will cause noticeable haze in the air, potentially affecting visibility and air quality.

In addition to the dust, an upper-level high pressure system will be strengthening as it moves slowly away from the region. This weather pattern is set to drive temperatures higher throughout the week. Thursday will see temperatures starting in the mid to upper 70s, with daytime highs climbing into the upper 90s across much of the area. The heat index is projected to surpass 105 degrees and may approach 110, making conditions feel exceptionally oppressive.

With the combination of extreme heat and dust, it’s likely to be a particularly uncomfortable few days. However, there is a glimmer of hope for relief as rain chances increase for Saturday. If the forecast holds, the anticipated rainfall could help clear some of the dust from the air and offer some much-needed respite from the heat.

Residents are advised to stay hydrated, limit outdoor activities during peak heat hours, and be aware of the potential impacts on air quality due to the Saharan dust.

However, the sunsets should be awesome!
