Rambo Rescued: A Tail-Wagging Ending to an Eight-Day Ordeal

After eight long days of worry and heartache, Antoinette Riley has been reunited with her beloved 15-month-old Cane Corso Mastiff, Rambo. His remarkable rescue this afternoon, led by the Texarkana Texas Fire Department, unfolded behind Big Jake’s BBQ Restaurant on Richmond Road.

Rambo’s disappearance had left Riley desperate for answers. “I told God I was giving up,” Riley recounted emotionally. “Not five minutes later, I got a phone call.” The caller shared a lead: Rambo might be trapped in an uncovered manhole near Big Jake’s BBQ.

Antoinette has spent the last 8 days searching, knocking on doors, hanging 100s of flyers, posting on social media, and doing everything she could think of while praying for Rambo’s safe return.

The discovery was pure luck. A woman walking her dog stumbled upon the open manhole when her dog’s ball disappeared. Realizing the danger, she acted quickly, heading straight to the nearby fire station for help.

The Texarkana Texas Fire Department didn’t hesitate. A team of dedicated firefighters arrived on the scene with a ladder, harness, rope, and plenty of determination. Freeing Rambo was no small feat, his size and the depth of the manhole presented a challenge. But after some strategic maneuvering, the rescuers hoisted the 100-pound pup back to safety.

Rambo’s wagging tail and relieved expression were all the reward the team needed. For Riley, the moment was nothing short of a miracle. “Thank you, God. Thank you to the nice lady and her dog. And thank you to the Texarkana Fire Department for bringing Rambo home!”

Rambo has been checked out and is going to be just fine. He’s at home. He’s on the bed.

Rambo’s ordeal is a reminder of the power of kindness and quick action. Thanks to a compassionate stranger, a diligent fire department, and perhaps a little divine timing, this story has a happy ending—and one very grateful pup is back where he belongs.

After more than 40 years with commercial broadcasting, I decided to do my own thing by blogging, and taking "unconsultant" gigs. It affords me the ability to stay super involved in the community, but still, have plenty of time with my 3 granddaughters and other projects.
