Texarkana, Texas police say a man is behind bars after officers found him asleep in a van parked on the Liberty-Eylau High School football field early Tuesday morning.
According to police, 23-year-old Jarod Welch was discovered behind the wheel after calls came in about the unusual scene. Welch told officers he had no idea how he ended up on the track — a spot that’s not exactly easy to access by accident.
When officers checked his record, they found Welch had outstanding misdemeanor warrants. A search following his arrest turned up methamphetamine in his pocket and two stolen Amazon packages inside the van, which police say were linked to a porch theft the night before.
Welch was booked into the Bi-State Jail on charges of Possession of a Controlled Substance and Theft of Mail, in addition to his warrants. His bond has been set at $15,000.
