A Texarkana therapeutic riding center has received a life-changing donation of $240,000 from the estate of a southwest Arkansas couple who had a deep love for children, horses, and the mission of Runnin’ WJ Ranch.
The gift, left by Frank and Ada Coleman, was announced this week by the executors of their estate, Daryl and Sandra Thompson. The Thompsons said the couple was moved to contribute after visiting Runnin’ WJ Ranch several years ago.
“They just fell in love with it,” said Daryl Thompson. “They saw what was happening with the kids and adults here, and they wanted to make sure this ranch was part of their legacy.”
Runnin’ WJ Ranch Executive Director Brittany Rogers said the support couldn’t come at a better time.
“The cost of everything is always increasing, so this is a huge blessing and much needed,” Rogers explained.
The ranch, which has been serving the Texarkana area for 25 years, offers therapeutic horseback riding to about 60 children each week, along with programs for adults with disabilities. The sessions help riders not only with physical therapy but also with social interaction and cognitive development.
Frank Coleman, who raised horses and livestock in Sevier County, and his wife Ada were inspired by the impact they saw during their visit to the ranch. Sandra Thompson said it left a lasting impression. “It was just a blessing for them to be able to give,” she said.
According to Rogers, the Coleman family’s gift will help cover costs so children can continue participating in the riding programs without financial barriers.
