    TAPD Media Release:

Each year, the Texarkana Arkansas Police Department participates in the annual Special Olympics Law Enforcement Torch Run (LETR). The Summer Games Torch Run is an event that takes place across the state to honor the Special Olympics Arkansas athletes as they prepare to take part in our largest event, the Special Olympics Arkansas State Summer Games.

Law Enforcement officers from various agencies will run the Flame of Hope across the state of Arkansas until it reaches the arena at Harding University in Searcy, AR for Opening Ceremonies on Thursday, May 25, 2017. The LETR movement is essential to the success of Special Olympics Arkansas as they not only volunteer their time to help our athletes, they also organize fundraisers in their local communities for Special Olympics and raised over $500,000 this past year for the Special Olympics Arkansas program.

About Law Enforcement Torch Run for Special Olympics Arkansas
The Mission of the LETR is to raise both dollars and awareness for Special Olympics. Nearly 100 agencies and 1500 officers work year-round in Arkansas to accomplish this goal; they are some of our greatest volunteers. All funds raised go towards supporting Special Olympics Arkansas year round sports training and athletic competition. LETR holds special events like Polar Plunges, Boots-N-Badges, Tip A Cop, Golf and Softball tournaments. A major source of funding comes from the sale of Torch Run T-shirts that feature a new design each year. Sponsors and corporate donations help round out these fundraising efforts.

After more than 40 years with commercial broadcasting, I decided to do my own thing by blogging, and taking "unconsultant" gigs. It affords me the ability to stay super involved in the community, but still, have plenty of time with my 3 granddaughters and other projects.
