The good reverend Londell Williams passed away in his sleep Monday July 10. Reverend Williams made history in Texarkana Arkansas as the first African American to serve as Mayor, and as the longest-serving board member in the history of the city he loved devoting more than 37 years to his community.
Williams was loved and respected by many in his community. He served the citizens of Texarkana Arkansas on the Board of Directors from 1977 until his retirement in 2014. He served as Mayor in the mid-1990’s.
Reverend Williams was the pastor of Park Avenue Baptist Church for many years. Here is some video that was shot of part of one of his sermons at the 84th Anniversary of Mt. Grove Baptist Church…
Reverend Williams’ arrangements are being made with Lyles Funeral Home, to sign the virtual guestbook, send private condolences, or a sympathy card visit the Lyles Funeral Home Obituary Page HERE.
Our thoughts and prayers with his family and friends in this difficult time. We would like to share one of our favorite quotes from Reverend Londell, “Every dog has his day. A good dog has a season.” Yes, he did.
