Local Family to Open Area’s First Drive Thru Christmas Village

We are super excited to announce that Randall and Kim Baggett will be opening “Season of Lights”, a family-owned and operated drive-thru Christmas light park that will promote the Spirit of Christmas and create family traditions that will be located on I-30 at exit 198 in New Boston, Texas.

Kim and Randall have dreamed of opening a family entertainment business for a long while. A couple of years ago the couple was looking to open an Urban Air Trampoline Park in the area, but when two other parks opened they began looking for a new idea. After sitting in line for hours to drive through “Santa Land”, almost 3 hours from Texarkana, the couple decided that this would be a great idea for our community, and they began searching a location.

Kim told us about the park,

The property is 25 acres with a 5000 square foot building located in the center. We will be clearing a road for Christmas scenes that will be at least 1 mile long.  Some of the scenes planned will be a Salute to Veterans, First Responders, Santa Claus, Blue/White, Christmas trees, Deer Crossing, and of course, the most important scene will be the true story of CHRISTmas!  In addition to the scenes we have planned, we miraculously came across a park that transitioned from Christmas to Halloween and did not want to transition back.  They are selling all 14 of their Christmas scenes from their 1/2 mile trail.  All of their scenes are Light-O-Rama displays where will play music in your car when tuned into the directed station and the lights will move and blink to the music. Soon, we will be announcing sponsorship advertising opportunities for local businesses to sponsor a scene on the trail.

In addition to the drive-thru light scenes, the park will house Christmas vendors, a concession stand, pictures with Santa and much more inside the building for customers to enjoy after they drive through the park.

A big driving force for the Baggett’s is to give back to the community, Kim told us,

One of our biggest desires with this business is to give back to our community.  We will have nights where a portion of the proceeds will be donated to local charities and youth groups in return for volunteer workers.  Sign-ups for those nights will start soon.  These nights will be on Monday& Tuesday.  Also, we would like for local churches to do live nativity scenes on the weekends and we will donate to their church in return.

The park will be open from November 16th to December 31st from dark until 10:00 pm or until the last car gets through.  The park will be open every night including Thanksgiving, Christmas Eve and Christmas. The family hopes to make this a tradition for many families for years to come. The charge will be $20 per car and $30 for vans. (Discounts for church and nursing home vans) Buses will not be able to drive-thru the park due to curves in the road and the tunnel along the way. The location is on a long frontage road off of Hwy 98 and plans are already in place to reroute traffic and keep congestion off of the interstate. The park will be hiring approximately 15 seasonal employees.

This year the family is busy building out the park along with their full-time jobs, Kim is a social worker and Randall is a Deputy with the Bowie County Sheriff’s Department, and a very busy schedule of activities with the kids, but the park will be open by November 16, 2018. Next year the family hopes to host Halloween events at the park also.

After more than 40 years with commercial broadcasting, I decided to do my own thing by blogging, and taking "unconsultant" gigs. It affords me the ability to stay super involved in the community, but still, have plenty of time with my 3 granddaughters and other projects.
