Texarkana, AR:  Allen L. Brown, President/CEO of Mil-Way Federal Credit Union, Texarkana, AR, announces his intention to run for the mayor of the city of Texarkana, Arkansas.

Brown has been employed with Mil-Way Federal Credit Union for over 32 years.  Hired as a loan officer, he was promoted to senior vice president in 1990, and promoted to CEO in 1995. The credit union has grown from over 800 members to almost 12,000 during his tenure and from seven employees to 42.

Brown has been politically active in the credit union movement for 30 years. He served on many state and national committees, most recently as chairman of the Arkansas Credit Union Legislative Committee, as well as a member of the State Board of Credit Unions.

Being an active community member, Brown has served as president of Texarkana Noon Kiwanis Club, was a member of the Texarkana Arkansas Planning Commission and the Texarkana Arkansas Board of Adjustments as well as served on the Texarkana Chamber of Commerce board of directors.  He is currently a member of the Texarkana Chamber of Commerce Economic Development Council and a board member of the Temple Memorial Rehabilitation Center.  He has been recognized by Opportunties, Inc with the David Pryor Volunteer of the Year award and served as co-chair of the United Way of Greater Texarkana Campaign with his wife, Shelby.

In 2016, Brown was recognized by the University of Arkansas in Fayetteville as one of the longest tenured Area Razorback Club presidents for over 30 years of service. His additional academic and sports connections include founding of and serving as past president of the Texarkana Razorback Athletic Foundation for Texarkana Arkansas School District and is currently serving as chairman of the Agent Barry LIVE UNITED Bowl.

Brown is also an active member of the First United Methodist Church of Texarkana, Arkansas, where he chaired the building committee after the church suffered a devastating and debilitating fire.  His church involvement also includes having served on the board of trustees, the finance committee and is the current incoming Chair of the Administrative Board.

Allen is married to Shelby Nottingham Brown and they have three grown sons:  Matt who is married to Megan with a daughter Sutton, and sons Jared and Peyton.  All three children as well as their daughter-in-law graduated from Arkansas High and have made their homes in Texarkana Arkansas.   Megan is currently teaching at College Hill Middle School and Matt owns the Southern Edge Barber Shop in Jefferson Marketplace while Jared and Peyton are both self-employed with Double B Farms.

“I look forward to meeting and talking with the residents of Texarkana, Arkansas during my campaign to learn about issues that are important to them. I hope to be able to express my sincere commitment to building upon the positive aspects of our caring community while designing a plan to ensure that Texarkana Arkansas stays vibrant and prosperous not only for our current residents and businesses but also future ones,” stated Brown.

After more than 40 years with commercial broadcasting, I decided to do my own thing by blogging, and taking "unconsultant" gigs. It affords me the ability to stay super involved in the community, but still, have plenty of time with my 3 granddaughters and other projects.
