Texarkana, Texas – Bowie County Commissioner, Precinct 2, Tom Whitten, today announced
that he has filed for re-election in the March 2018 Republican Primary Election.
“It has been an honor to serve the citizens of Precinct 2. I am proud of our accomplishments
and would welcome the opportunity to continue to serve as commissioner,” said Whitten.

During his tenure as commissioner, Whitten has successfully led efforts to implement a
resurfacing and re-stabilizing program on county roads, some of which include Bent
Tree Rd, Goodwin Rd and Sparks Ln. He also worked with the Metropolitan Planning
Organization (MPO) and the Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT) to help implement
several major infrastructure projects including the widening of Moores Ln.
and McKnight Rd., and the replacement of the overpass on I-30 and FM 2253.

“We have worked closely with the MPO and TxDOT to help expedite the completion of
these major projects to help address traffic congestion, safety, and the continued
growth in our area,” said Whitten. “The improvements are also a key component to
retaining and attracting new businesses to Bowie County.”

Whitten has worked with his fellow court members to deliver a budget this year that
lowers the property tax rate, from .47 to .42 per $100 evaluation, while still meeting
    critical county obligations.

“I am proud that we once again have Bowie County back on track and our increased
Moody’s Bond Rating reflects that,” said Whitten.

Whitten has served on various MPO Boards and as Vice-President of TEX-21, a transportation
    advocacy organization.

Whitten and his wife, Debbie, have two daughters, Hailey a junior at Pleasant Grove
High School and Hensley, a 7th grader at Pleasant Grove Middle School. The Whitten
family are active members of First Baptist Church – Moores Ln.

Whitten is a graduate of Texas High School and Texarkana College. He also earned a
Bachelor of Science from Southern Arkansas University.

After more than 40 years with commercial broadcasting, I decided to do my own thing by blogging, and taking "unconsultant" gigs. It affords me the ability to stay super involved in the community, but still, have plenty of time with my 3 granddaughters and other projects.
