It is truly a miracle that nobody was killed or injured any worse than they were in a shooting incident involving Bowie County Deputies and Bryan Batchelor, 48, of DeKalb, Texas early in the morning of Sunday, September 17. Take a look at some of the damage to the vehicles involved.

    Bryan Lee Batchelor, 48

In the early morning hours of September 17, Bowie County Deputies responded to a house fire in DeKalb where the homeowner had a gun and wouldn’t let DVFD get to the blazing house. He attempted to flee in his truck when deputies Eric McMillian and Westin Fannin took off in a Bowie County Vehicle after Batchelor but got stuck in the pasture. Batchelor rammed the vehicle that the deputies were in and fired shots striking the officers. The deputies were able to return fire.

Batchelor again took off in his truck and was spotted by deputy Clint Freeman on CR 4241, where Batchelor rammed the vehicle that Deputy Freeman was operating, knocking it out of commission.

Batchelor was later found on County Road 4235 by Lieutenant Chris Allison and Deputy Martin McGee. Batchelor again crashed his truck into another Bowie Couty Patrol Unit. It was here that there was a second exchange of gunfire and deputies were able to place Batchelor under arrest. Batchelor is still in custody of the  Bowie County Sheriff’s Office.

Bonds for Batchelor are set at $1,000,000 each on three counts of Aggravated Assault Against a Public Servant and $50,000 for Evading Arrest in a Vehicle and additional charges could be filed.

After more than 40 years with commercial broadcasting, I decided to do my own thing by blogging, and taking "unconsultant" gigs. It affords me the ability to stay super involved in the community, but still, have plenty of time with my 3 granddaughters and other projects.
