Fatal Stabbing at Texarkana Salvation Army Headquarters, One Arrested

The Texarkana Arkansas Police Department responded to a “Stabbing” call around 5:30 P.M. at the Salvation Army office at 316 Hazel Street. TAPD took a man into custody with the assistance of the Texarkana Texas Police Department.

At approximately 5:30pm today, Texarkana Arkansas Police were called to the Salvation Army at 316 Hazel St. in response to a stabbing. While investigating the call, officers learned that a male, who was reported by witnesses to have just stabbed another man in the chest, had left the scene walking north. Another witness followed the suspect from the scene and reported that the man was walking north on N. State Line Ave. and had crossed into Texarkana, Texas. Texarkana, Arkansas police responded and located Billy Joe Mitchell, 43 years of age, walking north. With the assistance of Texarkana, Texas Police, Mitchell was taken into custody after evidence was found that linked Mitchell to the crime.

Lifenet paramedics and TAPD officers rendered aid to the stabbing victim who was transported to Wadley Hospital, where he later died of his injury.

The victim’s name is withheld from this release due to the victim’s family not having been located and notified.
