In the wake of Hurricane Helene’s destructive path through several southeastern states, Samaritan’s Purse and a handful of other organizations have mobilized comprehensive relief efforts to aid those affected by the unprecedented flooding and damage.
The hurricane, which made landfall with devastating force as a level 4 hurricane, has left a trail of destruction across Florida, Georgia, Tennessee, and western North Carolina, inundating communities with up to two feet of rainfall and triggering severe flash flooding. Particularly hard-hit is Watauga County, North Carolina, where Samaritan’s Purse has its international headquarters in Boone. The town and surrounding areas are grappling with extensive damage including toppled trees, flooding, road closures, and widespread power and power outages.
“Our hearts go out to all those impacted by Hurricane Helene,” said Franklin Graham, President of Samaritan’s Purse. “This storm has hit close to home for us, affecting our own communities in North Carolina and beyond. We’re committed to providing immediate assistance and support to help families begin to recover.”

Samaritan’s Purse has established five operational bases across the affected regions, including emergency field hospitals and assistance centers. In Watauga County, a 20-bed Emergency Field Hospital is being deployed at Charles A. Cannon, Jr. Memorial Hospital in Linville to support medical efforts amid the crisis. Teams are actively engaged in search-and-rescue missions in Avery County, expecting an influx of injured individuals as they navigate the aftermath of the storm.

In addition to North Carolina, Samaritan’s Purse is actively responding in Georgia and Florida, where teams are stationed in Valdosta and Perry respectively. In Valdosta, volunteers are already making a difference, assisting residents like Mariah Mitchell, whose home was struck by a falling tree.
“They’ve been really, really blessing me,” Mitchell shared gratefully. “The Lord sent them because I needed them. Ya’ll came a long way to help me, and I don’t take it for granted.”

Across all operational sites, volunteers are aiding with mud-outs, tree removal, roof tarping, and debris clearance, providing essential relief to affected homeowners and communities.
For those looking to support Samaritan’s Purse in their relief efforts, volunteers are welcomed and encouraged to join the ongoing response efforts starting September 30. More information can be found at spvolunteer.org.
“Our mission is to be the hands and feet of Jesus Christ in times of crisis,” Graham emphasized. “Your prayers and support are invaluable as we continue to reach out to those who have been devastated by Hurricane Helene.”

My name is Jeff Easterling. I made a donation to Samaritans Purse, and put $100 in my cashapp to assist, (I had $17 in there), for the pet, animal relocation, and feeding rescue efforts to come. All proceeds at the end of October will be made to a few pet rescue operations that are still being donated, if you want to donate to that cash app, just email jeffonradio@gmail.com so we can keep track of every penny.
