A Bowie County infant was killed in a tragic auto crash on Highway 82 in Hooks. The car the baby was traveling in is believed to have crossed the center line striking another vehicle head-on.

    DPS Press Release:

On 01/22/18, at approximately 7:50 a.m., Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS) Troopers responded to a crash on US 82, in Hooks, Texas.

A 2007 Honda Accord, driven by Shakeem Devon Hayes, 25 year old male from Hooks, Texas, was traveling west on US 82 when he crossed into the east bound lane of US 82, striking a 2012 Toyota Camry that was traveling east.

Shakeem Hayes was transported to St. Michael’s Hospital with non-incapacitating injures, where he was treated and released. A male infant traveling in the Honda Accord was transported to Arkansas Children’s Hospital, where later died from his injuries.

The driver of the Toyota Camry, Rebecca Williams Schutte, a 70 year old female of Hooks, Texas, was transported to St. Michael’s Hospital in stable condition, with incapacitating injuries.

This is an ongoing investigation.  No addition information is available at this time.
