A tense situation unfolded earlier today as local law enforcement responded to reports of a suspicious individual wielding a machete and a whip at a McDonald’s on New Boston Road. The incident, which occurred shortly before 10:00 am, led to a dramatic confrontation between the suspect and officers, ultimately resulting in his arrest.
According to authorities, the suspect, identified as 32-year-old Kevin Neal, was spotted walking away from the McDonald’s down New Boston Road. Officers quickly located him a couple of blocks away and attempted to apprehend him. However, Neal responded aggressively, swinging the machete at the officers and refusing to comply with their commands to drop the weapon.
Despite attempts to subdue him using non-lethal methods, including a JPX pepper gun and bean bag rounds, Neal continued to advance down the road, posing a serious threat to both officers and bystanders. The situation escalated as officers pursued him on foot, with Neal persistently brandishing the machete.
After tracking Neal to the 2700 block of Texas Blvd, officers finally seized an opportunity to intervene and apprehend him. However, not without a struggle, as one officer sustained minor injuries after being struck in the head with the machete during the altercation.
Kevin Neal was subsequently arrested and charged with Evading Detention, Resisting Arrest, and Aggravated Assault. Following medical clearance at the hospital, he will be booked into the Bi-State Jail to await further legal proceedings.
Despite the harrowing ordeal, authorities commend the professionalism and bravery displayed by the responding officers in handling this highly dangerous situation. The injured officer, though having suffered minor injuries and a broken pair of glasses, has been treated and discharged from the hospital.
Texarkana residents are urged to remain vigilant and cooperative with law enforcement in ensuring the safety and security of the community.
