Prank Calls Lead to Two Local School Campuses Being Placed on Lockdown

The Texarkana Texas Police Department is investigating a case in which a prank caller caused two local school campuses to go into lockdown mode on Tuesday afternoon.

    Press Release:

The Texarkana Texas Police Department is investigating a prank call that was received on the department’s administrative telephone line this afternoon at approximately 1:35.  The young male caller said that he was holding several hostages at an address on McKnight Road and had shot one of them.  Officers responded to the address and spoke with an elderly couple who lived there.  They told officers that there was no problem at their home and did not know why anyone would have used their address.  Officers checked other locations in the area and were unable to verify the claims made by the caller.

A call was also received by the Wake Village Police Department moments later where the caller provided similar troubling details and gave the same address as in the initial call.

As the address provided by the caller was in the general area of Pleasant Grove High School and Morriss Elementary School, those campuses were notified of the situation.  As a precautionary measure, school administrators decided to temporarily lockdown these campuses until the situation was resolved.  Officers checked both campuses but did not find anything there.  The campuses were cleared to reopen within thirty minutes of the initial call.

Officers are currently working to identify the number from which the calls originated and hold the person responsible for the false alarm their prank calls created.  Anyone with information about these calls is asked to contact the Texarkana Texas Police Department at 903-798-3116.
