The Texarkana Texas Police Department is investigating the discovery of human remains found in Swampoodle Creek near downtown Texarkana. Identification found with the remains indicate that the body is that of Anthony Carmeli, missing since September 10.

    Media Release:

Two men walking near the Texas Viaduct at approximately 8:00 this morning discovered a badly decomposed body in Swampoodle Creek and called the Texarkana Texas Police Department to report it.  Based upon evidence at the scene, investigators believe it to be the body of Anthony Carmeli, 42, of Texarkana Arkansas, who had been missing since September.

The cause and time frame of his death has not been determined.

Carmeli’s body was sent to the Southwestern Institute of Forensic Sciences of Dallas for an autopsy.

Officers had been searching for Carmeli since he was reported as missing, after walking away from his children’s soccer practice in the 1500 block of Pine Street on September 11.  Carmeli asked another parent there to watch his children while he took care of something, and he left on foot in an unknown direction.  He had not been heard from since.  His cell phone was turned off shortly after he left the soccer practice.

If anyone has information on this case, they are asked to call the Texarkana Texas Police Department at 903-798-3116 or Texarkana CrimeStoppers at 903-793-STOP.

Lieutenant Shawn Vaughn, Public Information Officer for the Texarkana Texas Police Department, tells us that around 8:00 am the PD received a call from 2 men that had found a body lying in Swampoodle Creek under the viaduct near W. 3rd and Elm Street. Officer responded to the scene and crime scene technicians located identification on the body indicating these were the remains of Anthony Carmeli who disappeared on September 11 from his children’s soccer practice near 15th and Pine Streets. The remains have been sent to the State Crime Lab for further identification. The investigation continues.
