Media Release:
Two men walking near the Texas Viaduct at approximately 8:00 this morning discovered a badly decomposed body in Swampoodle Creek and called the Texarkana Texas Police Department to report it. Based upon evidence at the scene, investigators believe it to be the body of Anthony Carmeli, 42, of Texarkana Arkansas, who had been missing since September.
The cause and time frame of his death has not been determined.
Carmeli’s body was sent to the Southwestern Institute of Forensic Sciences of Dallas for an autopsy.
Officers had been searching for Carmeli since he was reported as missing, after walking away from his children’s soccer practice in the 1500 block of Pine Street on September 11. Carmeli asked another parent there to watch his children while he took care of something, and he left on foot in an unknown direction. He had not been heard from since. His cell phone was turned off shortly after he left the soccer practice.
