De Queen Police have arrested four suspects in a weekend drive-by shooting that killed one person and left another wounded on Washington Street in Ashdown, Arkansas.

Ashdown Arkansas Police report that they were called to a residence on Washington Street in the early morning hours on Sunday after reports of a shooting. Two people, Samari Covington, 19, and Desmond Smith, 19, were injured and transported to the Little River Memorial Hospital in Ashdown by a private vehicle. Smith was pronounced dead a short time later.

Covington was transferred to a Texarkana hospital for treatment of a gunshot wound to her arm.

Reports were made that a red Dodge Charger drove up to the home and fired multiple rounds from the vehicle. A witness reported that one of the occupants of the car was Joshua King of De Queen Arkansas.

The suspect vehicle was stopped in Sevier County by Sevier County Deputies and members of the De Queen Police Department a short time later. Joshua King and three other occupants of the vehicle were detained without incident. All are being held in the Sevier County Jail pending formal charges being filed.

The investigation into the shooting continues.
