The Texarkana Homeless Coalition (TXKHC) is set to host its highly anticipated Annual Bridge City Chili Cook-Off on Friday, January 26th, creating a flavorful event to address the challenges of homelessness and raise community awareness.
The cook-off will take place from 5:00 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. in the parking lot of First Baptist Church at 401 Pine Street, Texarkana, TX. In case of rain, the event will still go on, utilizing the church’s facilities. “Lately, you never know,” says event organizers, emphasizing the unpredictable weather conditions.
This gathering serves as an opportunity for the community to unite and engage in discussions about the complexities of homelessness. Proceeds from the Bridge City Chili Cook-Off, as well as other initiatives supported by TXKHC, will be allocated towards funding scholarships for educational opportunities for those experiencing homelessness. Additionally, funds will benefit the Care Bound program, aiding individuals in transitioning from homelessness to treatment facilities or reuniting with their families. The program also provides training and technical assistance for local agencies dedicated to addressing homelessness.
Embracing a fun and nostalgic theme, this year’s event is titled ‘Dress Your Decade.’ Attendees are encouraged to showcase their best attire from any era. The entry fee for contestants is $25, and participants are required to prepare enough chili for approximately 100 samples. Judges will evaluate contestants based on various categories, including Best Presentation, People’s Choice, Best in Texarkana, and a special Top Restaurant category.
The Bridge City Chili Cook-Off not only promises a delightful culinary experience but also aims to foster a sense of community and philanthropy, contributing to the ongoing efforts to combat homelessness in Texarkana.
