Two Arrested Following Early Morning Fight in Downtown

A late-night street fight that was captured on video and has since gone viral resulted in the arrest of two individuals early Sunday morning in downtown Texarkana.

According to the Texarkana Arkansas Police Department (TAPD), officers were dispatched at approximately 1:39 a.m. on Sunday, August 3, 2025, following reports of a physical altercation near Hopkins Icehouse in the city’s entertainment district.

However, police have clarified that the individuals involved were not patrons of Hopkins Icehouse, and the incident did not originate at or inside the establishment. Witnesses and video footage show the fight began further south on Broad Street, escalated up to East 3rd Street, and ultimately spilled back down to Broad, where officers were finally able to intervene.

Upon arrival, TAPD officers observed two men fighting in the middle of the roadway. The individuals were identified as Jeffery Russett, 39, and Erickson Poyner, 21. Both were arrested at the scene on charges of disorderly conduct, based on officers witnessing the active altercation.

Russett and Poyner were transported to the Miller County Detention Center, where they were booked without further incident. Police say both men declined medical treatment.

In a statement, TAPD emphasized that officers routinely patrol the entertainment district, especially on weekends, and maintain a zero-tolerance policy for violence in the area.

“The safety of our community and our entertainment venues is a priority,” the department said. “We acted swiftly once the fight was located and were able to break it up without further escalation.”

The incident remains under review, and TAPD is encouraging anyone with additional footage or information to contact their non-emergency line.

After more than 40 years with commercial broadcasting, I decided to do my own thing by blogging, and taking "unconsultant" gigs. It affords me the ability to stay super involved in the community, but still, have plenty of time with my 3 granddaughters and other projects.
