2021 Schedule of Texarkana Memorial Day Events

Memorial Day is when we show our gratitude and respect to those who made the ultimate sacrifice of their lives in their service to the United States. Here are a few local activities we hope you will try to attend.

So glad we are again able to hold services to observe Memorial Day and give our respect and appreciation for our servicemen and women that gave their lives for our freedoms and liberties that are so often taken for granted.

Originally known as Decoration Day, Memorial Day has been recognized since 1868 and was for many years celebrated on May 30. Then, in 1968, Congress passed the Uniform Monday Holiday Act, and since 1971, the Federal Holiday we call “Memorial Day” has been observed on the last Monday of May.

First, we want to list the service for Sunday, May 30, held at Memorial Gardens Cemetary on Highway 67 hosted by the Texarkana Area Veteran’s Council and Texarkana Funeral Home at 2:00 pm.

Monday, May 31 – Memorial Day:

Remembrance Service at the Korea/Vietnam Memorial. Service starts at 11:45 am. Bring your own seating. (set-up starts at 10:30 am)

The annual Memorial Day Service at Hillcrest Cemetary on 7th Street in Wake Village Texas. Service will begin at 2:00 pm.

If you are unable to attend these events, there is a National Moment of Remembrance scheduled for 3:00 pm on Monday to be recognized with a moment of silence.

After more than 40 years with commercial broadcasting, I decided to do my own thing by blogging, and taking "unconsultant" gigs. It affords me the ability to stay super involved in the community, but still, have plenty of time with my 3 granddaughters and other projects.
