Organizers of the 44th Annual Hope Watermelon Festival have decided to cancel this year’s event. With COVID 19 numbers continuing to rise, a spokesperson for the Hope Chamber of Commerce said the decision was made out of our concern for the safety of the community and those that come from all over.
Created back in the 1920s the festival has grown to not only be a local favorite but folks travel from all over for the festival and all of the events and activities that go with it.
All across the country organizers and event vendors are in a state of confusion as states are opening back up for business. The Watermelon Festival was scheduled for August, but with an event of this size, and with every guest and all employees having to wear masks, the social distancing rules, at this point the event is canceled for this year.
Organizers are looking at other events and activities for later this year.
