The Texarkana Texas Fire Department and the City of Texarkana, Texas will host a special stop on the nationwide “Towers to Tunnels – Steel Across America” tour on Wednesday, June 3, from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Texarkana U.S. Post Office & Federal Building in downtown Texarkana.
The event is part of a historic nationwide tribute organized by the Tunnel to Towers Foundation to commemorate the 25th anniversary of the September 11, 2001 terrorist attacks.
At the center of the tour is an authentic steel beam recovered from the wreckage of the World Trade Center’s South Tower following the attacks on 9/11. The beam will travel more than 10,500 miles across the United States between May and September 2026, making more than 35 stops in 21 states and Washington, D.C., before returning to Ground Zero on September 11 for the official 25th anniversary observance.
According to the Tunnel to Towers Foundation, the steel beam serves as a symbol of sacrifice, resilience, and national unity, honoring the nearly 3,000 lives lost in the attacks, the first responders who answered the call, and those still suffering from 9/11-related illnesses.
“This steel beam represents the best of who we are as a country,” said Frank Siller, Chairman and CEO of the Tunnel to Towers Foundation. “As it travels from coast to coast, we hope this symbol brings communities together to remember the heroes we lost, honor the people still suffering from 9/11-related illnesses, support the families forever changed, and pay tribute to those who continue to protect and serve. Together, we must Never Forget.”

The public exhibition in Texarkana will allow visitors to view the World Trade Center steel beam up close while learning more about the events of September 11 and the lasting impact those attacks continue to have on America. Educational opportunities and exhibits connected to the Foundation’s “9/11 NEVER FORGET” initiative are also expected during the tour stop.
The Texarkana stop places the city among several nationally recognized locations participating in the memorial tour, including the Flight 93 National Memorial, Space Center Houston, Mount Rushmore National Memorial, and USS Alabama Battleship Memorial Park.
The Tunnel to Towers Foundation was founded in honor of New York City firefighter Stephen Siller, who lost his life responding to the attacks on September 11, 2001. Today, the organization provides mortgage-free homes to Gold Star families and fallen first responder families, builds specially adapted smart homes for catastrophically injured veterans and first responders, and works to combat veteran homelessness nationwide.
