So Pokemon is making some sort of comeback with the new app Pokemon GO available for Android and iOS mobile devices and is Nintendo’s biggest mobile hit eve. So much so that it is on it’s way to becoming more popular than twitter, in terms of daily active users.
So, what is Pokemon GO?
Pokemon GO is a venture into “Augmented Reality”. That is the combination of game and real world interaction. Basically, Pokemon Go picks up on your phone’s GPS location and clock to determine where and when you are in the game and Pokemon show up near on you your mobile device screen… and you catch them. As you move, more and different types of Pokemon appear. The idea is to get you to travel around and “catch Pokemon”.
In response to so many people getting out to catch Pokemon, the Texarkana Texas Police as released some advice for those on the hunt in Texarkana.
You might have noticed a lot more people walking and driving around some areas of Texarkana over the last few days. Many are likely playing the new Pokemon GO game. The game allows players to use their phone to capture, battle, train, and trade virtual Pokémon who appear throughout the real world. It requires players to get outside and move around instead of sitting in front of a game console.
We think it is great and encourage people to have fun with it. However, please remember a few things to keep it an enjoyable experience for everyone.* Don’t become so engrossed in the game that you are not paying any attention to your surroundings. Always look both ways before you cross the street. If you find yourself in a situation or place that for whatever reason that makes you uncomfortable, leave immediately.
* Don’t trespass on someone else’s property. Many of the Pokestops and Pokemon Gyms are placed at buildings, churches, parks, and memorials all across town. However, some of these are actually on private property. Please be mindful of the property owners’ rights while you play.
* Have a DPD – Designated Pokemon Driver. It goes without saying that you should not be playing while actually driving a vehicle.
* Keep in mind that – as a matter of practicality – it is better to play during the day than at night. People tend to get more concerned when they see strangers walking around businesses and neighborhoods in the middle of the night and call us about suspicious activity. If we get a call, we will respond and check it out.
* Remember that all City parks close between 10:00 p.m. and daylight. Please limit your game play in the parks to the times that they are officially open. Also, the juvenile curfew times do apply for those under the age of 17.
