Wake Village residents were told Friday they must boil their tap water before using it for drinking, cooking or personal hygiene after a water main break prompted state action.
The Texas Commission on Environmental Quality required the city’s public water system to notify customers on Feb. 20, 2026, saying children, seniors and people with weakened immune systems are particularly vulnerable to harmful bacteria. The notice directs customers to bring water to a vigorous rolling boil and then boil it for two minutes before use for drinking, brushing teeth, cooking or making ice.
Officials said customers may use bottled water or another suitable source instead of boiling. The notice asks residents to share the information with neighbors and facilities that may not receive the alert directly — for example, apartments, nursing homes, schools and businesses — and to post copies in public places if needed.
Public water system officials will lift the boil-water notice and alert customers when testing shows the water is once again safe for human consumption. For questions, residents were given a contact: Adam Ezell at 903-838-0515.
