With dry conditions posing a fire hazard, Bowie County Judge Bobby Howell has issued a burn ban set to take effect at 2:00 p.m. on Wednesday, March 20. The ban will remain in place for the next seven days, restricting all outdoor burning in unincorporated areas of the county.
The only exceptions to the order include burning activities related to public health and safety that are authorized by the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality and outdoor cooking in enclosed pits or grills.
Violators of the burn ban could face a fine of up to $500, and enforcement of the order may be carried out by any duly commissioned Peace Officers within Bowie County.
Residents are urged to comply with the restrictions to help prevent accidental fires, which could strain local emergency resources. Officials will continue monitoring conditions and determine whether an extension of the ban is necessary.
