So, the city of Texarkana Arkansas has filed a lawsuit against three area hotels claiming the businesses are hotbeds of criminal activity including drug crimes, assaults, and prostitution.

The lawyer for the City of Texarkana Arkansas has filed lawsuits against three area hotels known for drug crimes, prostitution and a variety of other criminal activities claiming the businesses to be nuisances by Arkansas Law and that the businesses affect the health, welfare, and safety of the community.

The hotels listed are The Country Host Inn on Realtor Avenue, The Ambassador Inn on Realtor Avenue, and the Red Roof Inn on N. Stateline Avenue. The court could side with the city and shut down the hotels. We reached out to each of the properties and left messages for the owners but at this time we have not heard back. It is common for the police to be at these locations multiple times in a shift with common crimes being drug crimes, theft, prostitution and a number of reported rapes, assaults, and aggravated robberies.

Many in the community are excited to see the city take the initiative in getting some control in high crime areas, with some local business owners creating lists of businesses known as ‘problem areas’ in the city. This coming after the city’s attempt at creating a new loitering law designed to target certain business, but the funds to support and enforce the new law would come from all businesses in Texarkana, Arkansas. With a huge showing of business owners against the new law at a meeting last week at Texarkana Arkansas City Hall the plan was scrapped. With a few being very vocal on social media about laws that were already in place but not being enforced.

This coming after the city’s attempt at creating a new loitering law designed to target certain business, but the funds to support and enforce the new law would come from mandatory fees that would have been collected from all businesses in Texarkana, Arkansas. With a huge showing of business owners against the new law at a meeting last week at Texarkana Arkansas City Hall the plan was scrapped. With a few in attendance being very vocal at the meeting and on social media afterwards about laws that were already in place that was not being enforced. Some even posted possible solutions to some of the problem areas, including forcing owners to close the businesses for a period of time.

Seeing the way the city is approaching the know problem areas we expect to see the city bringing, even more, lawsuits in the future.
