After a relentless pursuit spanning over a decade, authorities have arrested 27-year-old Cameron Cheatham in connection with the 2014 murder of Xavier Rollins. The tragic incident occurred late on June 17, 2014, outside an apartment in the 1000 block of College Drive, where Rollins was found fatally shot.
The case had initially stalled, with leads running cold shortly after the crime. However, Detective Thomas Shaddix, who had taken up the cold case several months ago, refused to let it go. Armed with new forensic technologies not available a decade ago, Detective Shaddix recently made a breakthrough. Utilizing DNA evidence, he identified Cheatham as a suspect and swiftly obtained a warrant for his arrest on charges of Capital Murder.
“With advancements in DNA testing and the invaluable support from the Texas Attorney General’s Cold Case and Missing Persons Unit, we were able to reinvigorate this investigation,” stated Detective Shaddix.

Cheatham, already in custody at Bi-State Jail for an unrelated felony probation violation, was apprehended without incident on Tuesday for the new Capital Murder charge. His bond has been set at $1 million.
“This arrest underscores our commitment to seeking justice for victims and their families, no matter how much time has passed,” emphasized law enforcement officials.
Cheatham’s arraignment is pending, and authorities continue to urge anyone with additional information about the case to come forward.
