Day & Zimmermann Lone Star LLC, a longtime fixture in Texarkana’s defense manufacturing sector, has been awarded a $30,912,513 firm-fixed-price contract from the U.S. Army for the production of M82A1 percussion primers.
The award, issued by the Army Contracting Command at Rock Island Arsenal, came after a competitive bidding process that drew two offers. Work under the contract is expected to be completed by April 30, 2028.
“This award underscores our long-standing commitment to supporting the Soldiers with safe, reliable, and high-quality munitions,” said Brigadier General (Ret.) John McGuiness, President of Day & Zimmermann’s Munitions & Government Group. “We are proud to continue our legacy of trusted service, providing critical components that ensure the effectiveness and readiness of our nation’s armed forces.”

The Lone Star Plant has been operating in Texarkana for nearly 75 years, manufacturing a range of key ordnance items, including electric and percussion primers, M67 fragmentation grenades, grenade fuzes, and signal cartridges. The facility employs skilled operators, engineers, and quality control specialists, and houses specialized equipment for energetics handling and automated primer production, allowing for high-volume output under strict safety and quality controls.
Day & Zimmermann says the Texarkana operation is a critical link in the Department of Defense’s ammunition supply chain, surge readiness capabilities, and modernization efforts. The company has invested heavily in advanced manufacturing, robotics, precision automation, and data-driven quality systems to meet evolving military needs.
Founded more than a century ago, Day & Zimmermann continues to play a major role in strengthening the U.S. defense industrial base and supporting both U.S. and allied military readiness worldwide.
