Dismissed Lawsuit Brings Protesters to Texarkana’s Bi-State Justice Building

A few dozen protestors are in front of Texarkana’s Bi-State Justice Building today to protest a decision from the 6th Court of Appeals located inside the building. The protest stems from a land dispute case out of Gregg County Texas.

Felicia Pierce, along with some of her family and friends are in Texarkana to show their displeasure with a decision handed down by the 6th Court of Appeals. The case involves 350 plus acres of land in Gregg County Texas. Pierce and family believe they are the rightful heirs to the property and filed suit in Gregg County. The case was dropped by a Gregg County Court at Law Judge. The 6th Court of Appeals in Texarkana sided with the Gregg County Judge that the case should be dismissed.

At the center of the case is the fact that Pierce and family contest a 1921 land transfer claiming it was done illegally and the Pierce family are the rightful heirs and owners of the property. The family believes that surface and mineral rights belong to them and a number of gas and oil companies have been named in the lawsuits.

Pierce now has the option to take her case to the Texas Supreme Court for a decision.

After more than 40 years with commercial broadcasting, I decided to do my own thing by blogging, and taking "unconsultant" gigs. It affords me the ability to stay super involved in the community, but still, have plenty of time with my 3 granddaughters and other projects.
