Back in the day, downtown Texarkana was a magical place during the holidays. Now, a wonderful idea for spreading joy in downtown Texarkana again is shaping up with the “Crossties Christmas Tree Challenge“. What a sight it would be to have a hundred decorated Christmas trees on display, with arts, crafts, and more. Here are some details.
We spoke with Les Munn about the challenge, and we are gonna get a tree to decorate with hopes many others will also. So far there are about 35 trees to be decorated with a goal of 100. This will not only be a display inside the fenced area on the Crossties property but a full event with the Frozen Rail offering seasonal beverages, arts and crafts for kids to decorate ornaments, and the big elf himself Santa will be there meeting, taking those special requests and taking photos with the kids.
This is a challenge to all of the businesses in town. Well, businesses, churches, civic groups, individuals… anyone really. Sponsor your Christmas tree for $85, then decorate it the way you like. This is a fundraiser for the Hold on to Your Britches Foundation, a local non-profit created to provide Christmas to underprivileged kids in our area that officers get to know over the year.
The community will vote and decide the winner of the challenge on December 7th, the night of the downtown Christmas parade. (But all will remain on display thru Christmas).
This is going to be a contest. The tree chosen as the best will get the sponsor the full “Crossties Venue” for a night. Have a concert, a family reunion, wedding, company party… anything you like, a $3,500 value.
