Across many parts of the nation, extremely high heat is in the forecast for many parts of the nation. Here in the Ark-La-Tex, we are looking at some average temps around 105 degrees and heat indices of around 110 degrees or more.
Some conditions expected across parts of the states over the next few days have been compared to conditions very similar to those in the 1930 dust bowl years. In one article comparing it to the 1930s, it listed current climate change as the reason for these heatwaves, but mentioned no reasons for the 1930s… (?)
No matter why the extreme heat will produce dangerous conditions.
If you work or spend time outdoors, take extra precautions to stay safe. If you can try to reschedule more strenuous activities for cooler times of the day such as the early morning or evening hours. Make sure you know the signs and symptoms of heat stroke and heat exhaustion. Wear lightweight loose-fitting clothing. Drink a lot of water and fluids. Avoid drinking caffeine and alcohol. Stay out of the sun, and in air conditioning as much as possible. NEVER leave children or pets in a vehicle. Be sure to check on neighbors and relatives.
A) The temp is only part of it, some high temp records may even be broken. However, it’s the combination of temperatures, humidity, and other atmospheric conditions that will play a part in heat waves.
B} Temperatures and Humidity combined will increase the heat index.
C) Two days with these conditions are bad, but three or more days in a row will be dangerous.
D) Natural climate cycles are “also at work”, (Like back in the 30s).
