Amanda Bowers and Tammy Thompson, both from Texarkana, have filed complaints with the Arkansas Attorney General’s Office and the City Manager against the Texarkana Arkansas A&P Commission for violations of the commission’s and the state’s by-laws and other discrepancies.
We spoke to Ms. Bowers and she told us,
Today Tammy Thompson and I have filed formal complaints with the Arkansas Attorney General’s office as well as the city manager against the board. I requested their financial records as well as meeting minutes from the city clerks office and have found multiple discrepancies and possible misappropriation of funds.
The women have stated multiple instances of violations in their complaint.
Ms. Bowers also added,
We tried to talk to the Mayor and she said she had no jurisdiction over anything with the A&P Commission and that the complaints would have to be made with the State. The State Attorney General’s office said the complaint would have to be filed with the city. When I spoke to the city clerks office they told me that they were unsure as to who complaint would need to be filed with that I should check with Josh Potter. I have left word wth his office as well as the police chief and city attorney. The Arkansas AG website suggest that complaints about elected officials should be directed to the chief of police or city prosecutor. So we filed complaints with both the State and City to cover our bases. Our hopes are that these allegations will be investigated and remedied.
