The Pleasant Grove Independent School District Board of Trustees has officially appointed Jeremy “Jake” Klar as the district’s new Police Chief. Klar brings over two decades of law enforcement experience and a proven record of leadership, most recently serving as a Police Sergeant with the Texarkana Texas Police Department in both the Patrol and Criminal Investigation Divisions.
Klar’s career reflects an extensive background in public safety training and tactical expertise. He holds certifications as a TCOLE Instructor, ALERRT Instructor, CRASE Instructor, ASP Instructor, and EVOC Instructor, along with specialized SWAT Sniper and Tactical Breach certifications. His training emphasizes officer development, leadership, and preparedness—skills that will serve the district’s growing safety needs.
“Jake Klar’s leadership experience and his strong background in supervision, training, and community safety make him an outstanding choice to lead our police department,” said Pleasant Grove ISD Superintendent Chad Pirtle. “He brings a student-centered mindset and a collaborative approach to school safety that aligns perfectly with our district’s mission to ensure high levels of learning for all.”
A graduate of Texas A&M University–Commerce, Klar earned his Bachelor of Science in Criminal Justice with an emphasis in Leadership, graduating Summa Cum Laude. He is also an alumnus of the Institute for Law Enforcement Administration’s Police Supervision School, and has completed numerous specialized programs focused on officer readiness and community engagement.
Beyond his professional accomplishments, Klar has been deeply involved in community outreach, volunteering his time to conduct Active Shooter Training for educators, medical and situational awareness sessions for school leaders, and firearms qualification training for local congregations. His dedication to prevention and preparedness reflects his belief in empowering others through education and awareness.
Chief Klar will officially assume his new role with Pleasant Grove ISD on October 13, 2025.
