Local talent Hailey Wright made a splash on national television last night, earning a spot on NBC’s The Voice with a stunning blind audition. The Redwater native delivered a heartfelt rendition of Freddy Fender’s classic Before the Next Teardrop Falls, captivating the coaches and prompting near-instant chair turns from both Kelsea Ballerini and Michael Bublé.
Wright, who hails from just outside the Redwater city limits, had her pick between the two superstar mentors but ultimately chose to join Team Kelsea Ballerini.
The young singer’s performance was met with high praise, with Ballerini applauding her rich, emotional delivery and Bublé complimenting her control and tone. Wright’s audition now sets her up for the next phase of the competition, where she will battle for a chance to advance even further in the season.
We remember when she first started busking at El Frio in downtown to build up her nerve to audition for these singing shows… we all new then that she had something special, and are very excited for her.
Fans can follow Hailey’s journey on The Voice, airing weekly on NBC.
