Remembering ‘Crystal Springs Beach’ [PHOTOS]

0

With the heat of summer, I remember the choices we had to cool off when I was younger. We had some public pools in Texarkana, but top of the list for many was swimming at “Crystal Springs Beach” near Maud, Texas on Highway 67. Long closed, but it is still there and we wanted to share some photos.

These photos were taken just a couple of years ago and make us wonder about the possibilities of seeing somebody renovate the property and open it to the public. It would take a good bit of money, a lot of time and bunch of effort, but it could be awesome. The water slides are still there but in pretty rough shape inside and out. The trolley tower is still standing, and a large area for events is still there and really wouldn’t need a lot of work to be functional again, picnic tables and all. The beach is in bad shape, all grown over, but I remember the sand beach, and with the right tractor and some shovels and rakes it could be a beach again.

Last I heard the property was purchased by a local doctor that has plans to use it, and neighboring property, as a small exotic game reserve of sorts. Though I haven’t heard much more about it, the place is still closed to the public. I haven’t heard any rumors of Crystal Springs Beach ever being brought back to life, but I would really like to see it.

If you ever spent a summer day at Crystal Springs Beach, share this blog post, and if you have any photos from back in the day, we hope you will share them in the comments.
