As anticipation builds for the upcoming total solar eclipse on Monday, April 8, 2024, Texarkana is gearing up for a series of exciting events and activities as part of “Solarbration TXK 2024.” Offering a mix of entertainment, education, and community engagement, Solarbration promises a memorable experience for all. The festivities kick off on Friday, April 5, with a screening of the beloved movie WALL-E at the Texarkana Library. Families can catch the movie at 10 am or 2 pm, providing an entertaining and educational start to the weekend. Meanwhile, downtown Texarkana will come alive with Food Truck Friday at the Post Office from 11 am to 2 pm, offering a delicious array of culinary delights. Additionally, more food trucks will be setting up at Front Street Plaza in preparation for Saturday’s events. In the evening, music lovers won’t want to miss “2 Pianos” featuring Paul Whitt & Jimmy Roberts at 7 pm at The Loading Dock stage, promising an unforgettable musical experience.
Saturday, April 6, brings the Front Street Food Truck Festival, a gastronomic extravaganza running from 10 am until sold out. Foodies can indulge in a variety of delicious offerings while enjoying the vibrant atmosphere of downtown Texarkana. Art enthusiasts will also have the opportunity to admire Solar Inspired Art Works on display at the 1894 Gallery, showcasing the creative talents of local artists.
Sunday, April 7, is Funday in downtown Texarkana, offering a fun-filled day of activities and entertainment for the whole family to enjoy, setting the stage for the main event on Monday.
On the day of the eclipse, Monday, April 8, Texarkana will host a series of free events to celebrate this rare celestial occurrence. The festivities begin with a Rooftop Eclipse Watch Party at The Hideout at 11:30 am, offering stunning views of the eclipse from a unique vantage point. Spring Lake Park opens for eclipse viewing at 12 pm, providing a serene setting to witness the phenomenon unfold. Before the eclipse reaches its peak, The Emerald City Band will take to the Stateline Stage at 1 pm, treating audiences to a lively performance against the backdrop of the celestial show. Later in the afternoon, Kin Faux will entertain crowds on the Loading Dock Stage at 3:30 pm, ensuring that the festivities continue long after the eclipse has passed.
With the eclipse expected to begin at 12:28 pm and reach full totality at 1:48 pm, Texarkana is preparing for an unforgettable experience. Organizers remind spectators to use proper eye protection and keep their fingers crossed for clear skies to witness this once-in-a-lifetime event.
