Stephanie Urbina Jones, the boundary-breaking singer-songwriter known for her fusion of Honky Tonk and Mariachi music, is set to captivate audiences at the Historic Perot Theatre on Saturday, September 28. Performing tracks from her latest album, “Manuel’s Destiny,” Urbina Jones promises a musical journey that spans generations and cultural landscapes.

Born from a deeply personal narrative, “Manuel’s Destiny” chronicles the epic tale of Urbina Jones’ great-grandfather, Manuel Anaya Urbina, who crossed borders and defied conventions in pursuit of personal freedom. The album blends traditional Mexican melodies with the spirited rhythms of Texan honky-tonk, a unique sound Urbina Jones describes as “Honky Tonk Mariachi.”

“This album is more than music; it’s a celebration of heritage, resilience, and the power of dreams,” says Urbina Jones, whose career has seen her share stages with icons like Willie Nelson and make history as the first mariachi performer at the Grand Ole Opry.

Recorded live near the border where her great-grandfather first entered the United States, “Manuel’s Destiny” features collaborations with esteemed musicians and heartfelt tributes to family and cultural roots. Songs like “Gypsy Dreams” and “Rhinestone Cowgirl,” featuring Wendy Moten, resonate with themes of courage, identity, and the enduring pursuit of one’s destiny.

For Urbina Jones, Texarkana holds a special significance as she brings her transformative music to the historic venue. “It’s a homecoming of sorts,” she shares. “Returning to Texas with this album feels like completing a circle that began with my childhood memories of mariachi and honky-tonk.”

Stephanie Urbina Jones’ performance at the Historic Perot Theatre promises an evening of musical enchantment, celebrating the cross-cultural spirit that defines her artistry. Tickets and further details are available through the theatre’s website.

After more than 40 years with commercial broadcasting, I decided to do my own thing by blogging, and taking "unconsultant" gigs. It affords me the ability to stay super involved in the community, but still, have plenty of time with my 3 granddaughters and other projects.
