A Texarkana man is facing criminal mischief charges after allegedly using a small all-terrain vehicle (ATV) to ram into a Tesla vehicle and damaging at least two others on Tuesday, March 25th. Demarqeyun Cox, 33, was arrested by the Texarkana Texas Police Department (TTPD) following the incidents.
The bizarre series of events began at the Golden Palace restaurant on Summerhill Road, where surveillance footage from a Tesla’s onboard camera captured a large man on a Mario Kart looking ATV, later identified as Cox, intentionally ramming the parked vehicle with his mini four-wheeler at high speed. While officers were responding to this initial report, another call came in regarding damage to a Tesla in the Lowe’s parking lot.
According to TTPD, Cox allegedly damaged a total of three Tesla vehicles. In addition to the ramming incident, authorities say he used a tool to scratch the word “Elon” into the paint of the other two vehicles.
“In the initial incident, he rammed the car with the four-wheeler, and the two subsequent incidents, he actually used some kind of tool to scratch the word Elon into the paint of the vehicles there,” said Shawn Vaughn with TTPD.
Shortly after the second report, an officer spotted Cox riding a mini four-wheeler near the intersection of Summerhill and New Boston Roads. Recognizing him from the surveillance footage, the officer stopped Cox. During the stop, Cox initially provided a false name but was subsequently identified and taken into custody.
Cox has been charged with criminal mischief and failure to identify. As of now, police have not established a motive for the alleged attacks.
“He has not told us what his motivation was in doing that is or was,” said Vaughn.
The investigation is ongoing.
