The Texarkana Texas Police Department is investigating the city’s first homicide of the year after a deadly shooting early Saturday morning on Carroll Street.
Just after midnight, officers responded to reports of gunfire in the 1300 block and discovered a 21-year-old man inside a residence who had been shot. Sadly, he was pronounced dead at the scene.
A 52-year-old man who was also inside the home at the time suffered injuries in the attack and was transported to Christus St. Michael Hospital. Authorities say his injuries are not life-threatening.
Preliminary reports suggest that one or more suspects fired several rounds into the house from the street before fleeing the scene on foot. Investigators believe this was a targeted attack, but no suspect information has been released yet.
“It’s still very early in the investigation, and we have more questions than answers right now,” police said in a statement. “Our detectives are working tirelessly to find out who is responsible.”
Authorities are urging anyone with information to come forward.
