With more than 150 area church members and law enforcement agencies packing the Texarkana Texas Police Special Operations and Training Center, it was obvious why the next two programs will be hosted at the Texarkana Texas Convention Center.
The convention center will serve to accommodate the hundreds of people that have responded to this opportunity. The demand for this information is huge, and this particular program is extremely comprehensive on real information needed in a world of increasing danger.
The next two programs are on Tuesday, November 28 and Thursday, November 30 at 6:00 pm.
The Texarkana Texas Police Department is offering a two-hour course on church security and responding to active shooters at 6:00 p.m. on November 28, 2017 and November 30, 2017. It will be held at the Texarkana Texas Convention Center on Cowhorn Creek. The course is provided at no cost and open to any interested church in the region.
The course topics will include:
- Understanding the role and function of a Church Safety Team.
- Guidance on organizing and developing a Church Safety Team.
- Response to an active shooter and other threats.
- How to organize and position security personnel.
- Verbal and non-verbal communication from the pulpit.
Chief Dan Shiner said, “We are pleased to be able to offer this service to our community’s churches. While none of us want to think that something like the horrific events that we saw in Sutherland Springs would ever happen here, we must all be prepared nonetheless. I encourage every church in the area to bring a group to hear this very important information.”
Upon completing the course, participants may request a complimentary on-site security vulnerability assessment of their church facilities.
