Texarkana Texas City Council Member and Ward 3 Representative Tina Veal-Gooch has stepped down from her position leaving a position open on the Council. Those that may me interested in filling the seat can apply by submitting a letter of interest to the City Secretary.

City councilmember Tina Veal- Gooch resigned from her position as representative of Ward 3 during tonight’s regularly scheduled city council meeting. Veal-Gooch has served since being elected in 2009.In a letter read at tonight’s council meeting, Veal-Gooch cited her passion for volunteer work as the main reason that she is stepping down from council.“I have come to the realization that the time has come for me to move on from the role of city councilwoman and back to what I love most—volunteer work,” she said. “Whether it is reading to an Alzheimer’s patient, working on a community fundraiser or assisting area youth, I feel the need to get back to the work which truly fills my heart.”The process for replacing the vacant council seat will begin this Friday at a special called meeting of the city council. At the meeting on Friday, December 16th, 2016 at 11:30 a.m., the city council will consider adopting a resolution accepting the resignation including a procedure for filling the vacancy. In that resolution, the procedure proposed will include accepting applications until January 3rd, 2017 and interviewing interested candidates during the city council meeting on January 9th, 2017.
